WHAT IS POUNCING RAIN?
Pouncing Rain Jewelry and Metal Working Center is a community education center.  We offer ongoing weekly classes in jewelry making and silversmithing, as well as one and two day workshops in various other jewelry making techniques.

We have a studio membership program for students and community jewelry/metal artist to work independently in our fully equipped studio.  It is a supportive, fun, social environment that gives our members a chance to interact with peers, share ideas and produce jewelry art.

Pouncing Rain has a retail store that sells jewelry making tools, equipment and supplies.  We are a Thompson Enamel distributor as well carry the line of Precious Metal Clay©, We have the tools and equipment to make jewelry as well as a selection of beads, charms, gemstones and raw metals and wires for the students and the public.

Our member's gallery is a retail outlet for members to show and sell a sampling of their work.  It is exciting and inspiring to see the talent in our community.

Our core curriculum is taught by Judith Gauthier, a wonderfully gifted teacher and artist.  She teaches the ongoing weekly classes as well as some of the workshops. We also draw on the jewelry arts community for our workshop instructors. We have talented wire workers, glass artists, bead artists, Precious Metal Clay© artists, as well as guest silversmiths and metal artists who teach. We are blessed with a talented and helpful staff that are all either former students or studio members and have a love and enthusiasm for this great medium of jewelry arts.

We invite you to come and visit us. Come join our community and share with us this fascinating and diverse art.  We are located in Bellingham Washington, between Seattle and Vancouver British Columbia.

New Exciting Class, Workshops and Instructors!

We are excited to introduce 2 new Instructors at Pouncing Rain.

We are so thrilled to have Nanz Aalund teaching at our studio.  She will be teaching classes and workshops that will further develop our jewelry making skills and techniques.  I am sure many of you have seen her  “Gum Drop Bracelet” that was featured on the cover of Art Jewelry Magazine in May 2007.   Nanz will be teaching a six week course that will teach the techniques we need to take our work into a whole new level,  a five week design course we call A Date with Design on Fridays eve, a three day intensive course in the hydraulic press and the rolling mill,  a three day intensive  in cold connections and stone setting,  and a two day course in forging small findings for jewelry making.

Our other new instructor is our own Mieko Takahashi.  In addition to being Pouncing Rain’s accountant and CPA, Mieko is a level 3 certified PMC instructor and the owner of her own very successful jewelry line.  Mieko will be teaching Kumihimo braiding, Chinese knotting  and  three new PMC (Precious Metal Clay) workshops. Mieko has developed a PMC Basic Skills workshop that she teaches in 2 hours and the cost is only $60.00!  She is also teaching a double fired ring workshop as well as a PMC chain workshop

We are offering classes in Beginning Jewelry making, Intermediate Jewelry Making 1, as well as our new continuing education class, Instructed Studio.

Our Open Studio Membership is sold hourly, in blocks of 20 hours or 40 hours.
